Your phone plan, added up.

The monthly price is the hook. The year is the bill. Tell us what you need and we'll do the maths.

Data each month
30GB

Not sure how much you use?
  • iPhone: Settings, then Mobile Service (or Mobile Data). Scroll to see this period's use.
  • Android: Settings, then Network & internet (or Connections), then Data usage.
  • Easiest: your provider's app or last bill shows the GB used each month.

Pick a little more than your biggest month. The Telstra and Optus plans slow you down instead of charging extra if you run out; OnePass data stops until you recharge or add more.

The year race

Every plan, one year of payments

Each bar is everything you'd pay in your first 12 months. The red tick shows a full year at the regular price. Faded plans don't fit what you need.

Deal-end reminder

The deal ends. We'll tell you first.

Deal prices quietly stop after a set number of months, and the plan rolls on at the full price. Tell us which plan you're starting and we'll email you two weeks before, with what's cheapest then.

The value map

More data, or less money?

Each bubble is a plan: further right means more data, lower means cheaper over two years. Anything left of your line won't cover you once promos end.

    Can I keep my number?

Yes. Every Australian provider has to let you take your number with you. When you sign up, choose to transfer (port) your number and have your current account number handy. The move usually closes your old service for you, but check whether you still owe anything on it, such as phone repayments.

    Is there a lock-in contract?

No. The postpaid plans are month to month with no lock-in, and prepaid plans only last as long as each recharge. A deal price lasts for the months or recharges listed on the plan, then the regular price applies.

What happens when the deal ends?

Your plan keeps going at its full price, and any bonus data drops back to the standard amount. Nobody is obliged to warn you loudly, which is why we built the reminder.

Will my phone work on the other network?

Most recent phones work on both, as long as the phone isn't locked to your current provider. Check coverage where you live and work first: Telstra's map and Optus's map.

    eSIM or SIM card?

The Telstra and Optus plans work with an eSIM, so on a phone that supports it you don't have to wait for a SIM card in the post. OnePass doesn't list eSIM for these plans, so expect a SIM card in the post. Each plan card lists eSIM when it's offered.

    Why only these providers?

We check every price by hand against each provider's own pages, so we add providers one at a time. Telstra and Optus came first, then OnePass Mobile, which runs on the Optus network. Vodafone and more of the smaller providers come next. Turn on price watch at the bottom of the page and we'll tell you when they land.

Does Plan Tally get paid by any provider?

No. There are no affiliate links or commissions. Plans are ranked by what they cost you, worked out by code.

    How it works

    Honest maths, three rules

    1. 1

      Count every payment

All the charges in your first 365 days. A deal counts only for as long as it lasts.

    2. 2

      Judge the data you keep

Bonus data ends. A plan only fits if month 13 still covers you.

    3. 3

      Show our sources

Prices come from each provider's own pages, dated. Older than 30 days? We hide it.

    The fine print
    • 28-day plans charge 14 times in your first year, not 13, and 90-day prepaid recharges 5 times (days 0, 90, 180, 270 and 360). After that we annualise them (× 365 ÷ the days).
    • When you use all your data, the Telstra and Optus postpaid plans slow you to 1.5Mbps instead of charging extra. That's fine for messages, maps and music; video buffers. Each plan card says what happens on its plan.
    • Extras like subscription credits are listed but not taken off the price, because they aren't cash.
    • Providers can change prices with notice. Always read the Critical Information Summary before you buy.
    • Plan Tally isn't affiliated with any provider and isn't paid for referrals. Cheapest first, worked out by code.
