Switching to Pennytel

  1. Check your phone is unlocked and works on the Telstra network, because Pennytel uses it. Look at the coverage map for the places you live and work.
  2. Keep your number: ask Pennytel to move it when you sign up, and don't cancel your old plan first. Your old provider texts a code to confirm, and the move is usually done the same day.
  3. Expect a bill, not a recharge: it's postpaid. The smallest first bill is $26 (Pennytel 10GB).
  4. None of the 9 Pennytel plans we track has a lock-in contract, so you can leave without a fee.
  5. No eSIM is listed on these plans, so you'll wait for a SIM to arrive.
  6. Our data says that if your data runs out it stops until the next recharge or month, with no extra charge.

How the prices line up

Each dot is a plan. Further right means more data a month; higher means a dearer first year. Cheapest $312, dearest $780.

When the monthly data and the data bank run out, mobile data stops until the next billing cycle; there is no automatic top-up (Critical Information Summary).

eSIM isn't mentioned in the Critical Information Summary, so it isn't counted here.

Price comes from the Critical Information Summary: Pennytel's plans page didn't show plan cards as text, so these plans aren't checked automatically yet.

Fees not counted here: $3 per paper bill, $10 late payment fee.
